Carring Guns in National Parks

May 28, 2009

I was reviewing some of the blogs on carring guns in National Parks. I ran across this answer to the concern of one bloggest. It state most of my position as well. Please read it and see what you fee.

“Here are some of my thoughts after reading your response.

1. You “[are] against it simply because I don’t like the idea of others around me being armed.”
– there are already laws making it illegal for criminals to possess guns and there are laws that would punish someone for being negiligent with a firearm. That being said, people who have no regard for those laws are already carrying guns in the national parks. It is only the law abiding citizens who are not.

2. “But wouldn’t it be appropriate to have places where nobody is allowed to be armed?”
– Yes if everyone would abide by the law. The fact people don’t is why I have a job. And we already have these places. They are called schools and churches. Which is why we see some of the worst massacres involving guns at those locations, because no one there can carry a gun and defend themselves.

3. “What kind of world is one in which you have to be armed to feel safe? ”
– There is a reason we have police officers and military. There are people out there intent on committing evil and are willing to use whatever is necessary to keep themselves from being caught. The only way to be safe in their presence is to match them.

4. “But I do not buy into the NRA’s implication that murderers, rapists and drug manufacturers are nearly as likely to confront hikers and bikers in the woods as they are pedestrians in dark alleys. Isn’t that an alarmist, perhaps paranoid attitude?”
– I bet Joie Armstrong, the parks naturalist killed in Foresta (Yosemite) by Cary Stayner (who already raped and killed three women just outside the park near El Portal) believed it was not as likely also to have to face this. Wouldn’t it have been nice for Joie and/or her family if she had potentially been carrying a gun that day and she could have saved her life.

– The book “Off the Wall: Death in Yosemite” documents numerous homicides that have taken place in the national park. This book is written by a former park superintendent.
– Also, frequently I have been in the outdoors and seen people that, based on my training and experience, I know to be involved in criminal activity. When you are in the backcountry, you have nowhere to run or hide, no 911 to call, no police to respond within 4 minutes. When your life is threatened (fortunately mine has not to this point) you need a tool for protection, not idealism.”

Great Memorial Day Weekend

May 26, 2009

A couple of bachelor groups went out to try their skills on firing full autos and assult weapons. One bachelor related a story about a bachelor party he attended.

It seems that the group had ordered strippers for the celebration. Well when they all got comfortable. the strippers pulled up guns and stripped them of all their cash, credit cards and valuable watches. I guess they set up with me to learn how to protect themselves at their next outting? So much for being stripped.

Back to the range, a couple of guys next to us had set up mini guns and m-60 machine guns. The must have fired over 8000 rounds in the half hour there. It was impressive.

WE if you want to try something different at you next bachelor party at Lake Tahoe or Reno, give Nevada Recreation a call. If you are looking for some atv action we can help there also at Lake Tahoe ATV rental.com.

We look forward to seeing you.

Memorial Day Weekend

May 24, 2009

What a better way to celebrate the holiday than shooting military firearms. The AK-47. The most inexpensive of the lot and the most use firearm in the world.

See how the AK-47 compares to the US M-16, M-14 and Austria’s Steyr Aug.

Thre are still openings on Sunday and Monday. Give us a call or drop us an email at josh@tahoe411.com

One major step forward for Gun Rights.

May 23, 2009

The following is from another post on Gun Rights. It come from a radio talk show dealing with our right to keep and bear arms. Or arm bears on the other hand. Here is the link: http://www.guntalk.com/site.php?cid=226544&pageID=105

The event goes as follows:

“The big win for gun rights last week in Congress was the restoration of our ability to carry guns on federal lands — national parks. This is the latest in a string of events — the Bush Administration restored our right to carry in parks before Obama took office. A lawsuit by the anti-gun rights cartel challenged that, and an activist judge blocked us from carrying on federal land, which we own.

Then, Senator Tom Coburn, from Oklahoma, put an amendment onto the credit card bill which was rushing through congress. Ignore, for the moment, that nowhere in the constitution does congress have the ability to regulate credit cards, and focus on what Sen. Coburn accomplished. His amendment removes the prohibition on concealed carry in national parks. Once it goes into effect several months from now, state laws apply in the parks. If you are legal to carry in that state, you are legal to carry in the national park in that state.

Two interesting things to note:

1. In the House, 105 democrats voted for this bill. Clearly, these democrats do not want to place a recorded vote against gun rights.

2. Before the bill’s passage, much the media was screaming about how licensed, trained permit holders would be gunning down children in parks if this were passed. None of them — not one that I could find — mentioned that it has been legal to have loaded guns in many national parks and refuges in Alaska since 1980, and this has not prompted any mass shootings.

The day after the bill passed, the New York Times and the Washington Post ran stories about the credit card bill and what it would mean to the public, but they left out any mention of the restoration of gun rights to national parks. I guess their “end of the world” warnings weren’t important once they lost.”

Recreational Shooting

May 18, 2009

Hey!  Want to try something different. Go recreational shooting with http://nevadarecreation.us. You can rent firearms and try them out. You can not take them away but you will be met  at a local range  or other location of your choice in the area and given a safety course and then, “Have a Blast.”

Many bachelor parties are doing this. Who knows why? But have you ever fired a machine gun? An AK-47 or an AUG. Check out the inventory at http://nevadarecreation.us. May your choice and come out.

It is really reasonable entertainment. No one has ever gone away disappointed.

Even if you hate guns, give it a try. You will see that a gun is just a tool. It takes an individual behind it to make it good or bad.

Hope to see you there.

Where is the Ammo

May 18, 2009

With the election of Barrack Obama, America is in a frenzy. There is panic buying of ammunition.

Walmart, a staple in the community has run out here in Reno of all hand gun ammo. Scheels, the world largest sporting goods store has run out and Cabellas here in Reno has run out.

This massive hording is due to the scare of President Obama election and the threat of limiting ammo and restricting guns.

There is not only a shortage of ammo but of dies and primers for reloading.

In the words of Drinking with Bob,” what’s next?”
